I was commissioned by Scarlett Entertainment to create a live painting for BW Construction at an event in Mayfair, London. The brief was to produce a striking piece of artwork in real time, giving guests the opportunity to watch the painting develop throughout the event.
The artwork was painted on a large 2 × 3 metre canvas, using traditional brushes rather than spray cans. This was a deliberate choice to avoid the strong smell associated with spray paint in an indoor event environment, allowing me to work comfortably in the space while guests watched the creative process unfold.
Working on such a large canvas in a live setting brings its own challenges. Unlike creating a painting in the studio, live event painting requires a balance between planning, technical precision and working at a pace that allows the audience to see the artwork taking shape. Building the composition with brushes, gradually developing the colours, forms and details, allowed the painting to evolve in front of the guests.
The commission was a great example of how live art can add a distinctive visual element to a corporate event. Rather than simply displaying finished artwork, live painting creates an experience around the creative process itself, giving guests something engaging to watch and a memorable talking point throughout the occasion.
